On the southern slopes of Kenya’s Aberdare range, approximately 3,000 share-holder farmers grow their coffee crops at the Rioki Estate in Kiambu county. Coffee was introduced into this area in 1911.

At 1,600 meters above sea level, SL28 and SL34 varieties thrive in the lush, volcanic soil. The SL28 and SL34 varieties are both prized around the world for their high cup quality.

Harvests occur between October and December, when ripe coffee cherries are selectively hand-picked, dry fermented, fully washed, and sun dried on elevated drying tables or “raised beds”.

In the cup, look for highly complex acidity that begins with punchy tropical fruit notes of guava, melon, and grapefruit. As it cools, the sweetness deepens and notes of peach, apricot, blackberry and cardamom spice appear. It’s juicy and smooth throughout, with a creamy body supporting all the acids. The lingering aftertaste leaves a sweet hint of honeydew melon and florals.
