I love this, truly. I tend to think of coffee as this great cultural connector - for when we sit down together with new people over coffee. But, I think what you're doing here is so special and deep .. and also connecting to people, nature, and the root of this "connection." Thanks for sharing this with the world! Keep on!

Hey John, I'm wondering if you think my method of storing and grinding coffee is kosher:
I buy a pound of coffee beans, transfer it to a tall plastic Tupperware container and put it in the freezer. When I'm ready to brew, I take the blend I want to brew out of the freezer, grind up the measured amount of beans while they're still frozen, put the rest back in the freezer, and go from there. The coffee beans stay dry in the containers in the freezer.
Unlike Aaron above ^ I don't thaw out the beans before I grind/brew. Just wondering if I should do something different. Hope to hear back from someone with their thoughts - preferably you, John. Thanks!

I usually freeze fresh coffee in Mason jars immediately upon receipt. Then I take out one jar at a time, thaw and use the entire jar before removing another one from the freezer (days later). If you aren't using your beans fast enough then freeze them. But they have to be fresh and properly sealed containers.

The Rocky is a stepped burr grinder. I owned one for a while then upgraded to a Mazzer Major for espresso. Definitely a great decision. When you want quality coffee, don't skimp on the grinder. The grinder is more important than most people realize.

Good Article! I never thought about water extracting the undesirables if you use too little coffee... But that makes sense. Also, that's a gorgeous picture of Adam. :-)

Nice! It's a burr grinder, right? I looked it up and it seems that about half of the websites say it's a blade grinder and half say it's a burr grinder (but all are about the same price).
